Balfa Toujours on the
Opening Night, Nov. 2, 2003

Here are a few quick photos of the opening
evening dance at the start of the Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Week held at
Chicot State Park. Balfa Toujours was on stage inside a large tent with a sturdy wooden
dance floor. That's Todd Balfa in the photo below dancing while the band played "Les
Tracas de Todd Balfa." Amelia Rose Powell performed a dance while her father and
Kevin Wimmer played twin fiddles and Tante Nelda played the triangle. Many other musicians
sat in with the band, including Blake Miller on accordion and his father, Bruno, on
guitar, Todd Ortego on rubboard, and Jimmy Breaux on accordion (and on drums with Balfa
Toujours for most of the evening). Kevin Wimmer got out his zydeco accordion later in the
